Funded hours calculator
Enter a child’s booking and see their funded and paid hours each week, and what the monthly invoice comes to, itemised the way the DfE asks. For funded places in England.
How it is worked out
A year of funded hours is 570 for 15 hours a week, or 1,140 for 30. Divided by the weeks a child attends, that gives the funded hours each week: 30 over 38 term-time weeks, or 22 hours 21 minutes stretched over 51.
The rest of the hours booked are paid at the hourly rate. Meals and consumables are charged per day attended. The year’s total is then split into 12 equal monthly invoices, with funded hours shown as free, as the DfE asks.

Questions we get asked
How many funded hours a week is 30 hours stretched?
1,140 hours divided by the weeks the child attends: 22 hours 21 minutes over 51 weeks, 22 hours 48 minutes over 50, or 23 hours 45 minutes over 48.
Can funded hours be taken over fewer than 38 weeks?
No. The entitlement can be stretched over more weeks with fewer hours each week, but not squeezed into fewer than 38.
Can a nursery charge for meals on funded hours?
Yes, but the charge must be voluntary. A family that declines must be offered a reasonable alternative, such as bringing their own food, and keeps the funded place.
Why is the monthly invoice the same every month?
Many nurseries split the year into 12 equal payments so families pay the same each month. Others invoice the weeks in each month. The total for the year is the same either way.
Coat Peg works this out for every child, every month, from the days they are booked in.
Set prices, each child’s funding and their extras once. Each month Coat Peg drafts every invoice from each child’s booked days, with funded hours, paid hours, food and consumables shown separately, and shares them with families in the app.
