What's on it

Required by the EYFS paragraphs 3.78–3.79 (childminders 3.77–3.78)

  • What happened: the accident or injury
  • First aid given
  • When and how the parent was told
  • For a serious incident, who was notified and when

Good practice

  • Accident, incident or injury on arrival
  • Date, time and exact place
  • Who saw it and who was supervising
  • Where on the body, left or right
  • The parent’s signature

What the EYFS asks for

The EYFS asks for a written record of every accident or injury and any first aid, and for the parent to be told the same day or as soon as reasonably practicable. It does not prescribe a form.

Skip the paper: it’s easier in Coat Peg

The same record, kept on the room’s device as you go, with nothing to print, file or chase.

  • Written on the device in the room, while it is fresh, with nothing to find or file.
  • The parent gets the report in their app the moment it is saved, and acknowledges it there.
  • Every report is kept, with the parent’s acknowledgement, and in the records export for an inspection.
